The Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) has received the Armed Forces Covenant.

Highland RFCA’s Regional Employer Engagement Director Ray Watt presented the certificate on 23 May at the organisation’s office in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. Ray (centre) is pictured with HHP Chief Executive Dena Macleod and HHP staff.

HHP is a charitable, not-for-profit housing association managing more than 2200 rentable properties across the Outer Hebrides.

HHP first signed the Armed Forces Covenant in February. By signing the Covenant, it has become one of the nearly 12,000 organisations to pledge support to the Armed Forces community.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from businesses to those who serve or who have served, and their families, which states that HPP will do all that it can to ensure that they are treated fairly and not disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives.

Furthermore, HHP will endeavour to uphold the key principles of the Armed Forces Covenant by promoting the Armed Forces, giving housing applications from ex-Service personnel fair consideration ensuring they are not disadvantaged, and offering job interviews to any Armed Forces Veteran applicants who meet the requirements of the personal specification.

Alongside this, HHP will support its employees who choose to be members of the Reserve and Cadet Forces.

HHP is now eligible to apply for a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award.

The ERS Awards encourage employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. The prestigious Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

HHP Chief Executive Dena Macleod said: “I heard about the Armed Forces Covenant at an Army Engagement Group event in 2023 at An Lanntair, Stornoway, and thought it was something HHP should support, so it was great to meet Ray today and receive our certificate. We look forward to demonstrating our commitment by applying for the ERS Bronze Award.”
